BIO: My name is Kleo Torres and I am from Raleigh, North Carolina. My major is criminal justice and my minor is computer science. I have aspirations of becoming a CIA Agent, and also will study law. What has initially brought me here to Alabama State is our track program and I am privileged to say that I am a scholarship athlete. I recently was inducted into the International Student Affairs as I competed in the Miss Diversity Pageant. After sitting down one on one with Torres we were able to get to know her a little bit more: This year Torres is the only candidate running for the Miss Junior 2018-19 position. With that being said Torres is using this campaign season to brainstorm ideas, network, and help others get to know who she is. For Torres this year is the season of Redemption and that’s what has brought her to her platform “Redemption Szn”. Redemption is the act of being saved from error and that is exactly what Torres would like for her classmates, the class of 2020. “Redemption started personally; from my grades, social, and athletic life…” Torres says that her freshman year was just not what she planned, but she took the time out this school year to redeem herself and make things better. Many students apart of the class of 2020 can relate as well. Torres explained that coming to college as a freshman it was all brand new and many didn’t go as expected. But, now as rising juniors it’s time to do things right. The Redemption season platform includes getting through the different changes on campus like the change of the University president, football coach, etc. “It was a lot that we weren’t expecting… but with Redemption we have to look at what the university has given us and not look at what it has not,” Torres said. Torres also explained that as a class queen she would like to bring awareness to the labs (math, geography, writing, etc) “I don’t really think that students take advantage of these opportunities,” said Torres. Along with bringing awareness to labs, she would also like for students to be aware of the campus counseling services. Torres noted that mental health is a big deal in college and students should take care of themselves. Torres explained that in the past campus queens haven’t really done much, but she would like to change that. “I want to leave a legacy and have people remember who I am.”
