BIO: Devin Smith a junior accounting major, son of Kimberly Smith and Oskey Smith is from Marietta, Georgia. Embarking on his journey at Alabama State University he has proven to be a well-rounded student with a heart to serve. Devin serves as the Executive Treasurer of the Student Government Association. Even though he has such responsibility in Student Government, he still finds ways to help the students and his university in any capacity. Mr. Smith is currently Executive Treasurer of NABA (National Association of Black Accountants); also, a member of UNITE a mentoring and community service organization. As a hardworking student, he has earned his place on Dean’s List since his freshman year. After graduation, he plans on continuing his academic journey in graduate school and then receives his CPA. Outside of his professional career, he lives a modest life which consists of hanging out with friends and family. Also, he enjoys running, playing video games, and reading during his free time.  Devin gives all credit to God, his loving and supportive family and friends for his past, present, and future accomplishments.

Devin Smith is no stranger to the Student Government Association. As he serves as the current treasurer and has served as a senator in Fall 2016 to Spring 2017 he knows both ends of the rope and will use that to his advantage.

Smith’s platform is V.I.S.I.O.N. Which stands for visibility, innovation, strategy, opportunity, and recognition. As of now Smith says the senate is “unseen and unheard.” As Vice President Smith will focus on the visibility of the senate and make sure that students know who the senate is and understand their roles. There will be townhall meetings regularly that will help students stay up to date on what SGA can and is doing. He we also ensure that the senate has things to focus on each semester to make sure that there is quality work being done.

“Every student is apart of SGA, but especially the senate,” smith said.

Smith stated that there has always been a divide between the two branches, but as he works to make the senate visible on campus he will also make sure that there is transparency between the branches and that everyone is on one accord. “I represent both parties and i have the power to use my voicem not be biased and keep the senate aware of what process can happen quicker for them,” Smith explained.

Smith commented that next year he will be the only person in office that has once held a position in the executive branch, which will help him implement his plans effectively. With experience Smith is familiar with how things work in the Executive branch.

This campaign season Smith is the only candidate running for the SGA Vice President position and rather than using this time to have events on campus Smith is using his time to plan out what he wants to do. “I want to work on the pilot because it’s extremely outdated.” Along with working the pilot he would like to work with senators and update the constitution.
