My name is Malisa Ray. I was born March 31, 1999 in Montgomery, Alabama to Jennifer and Bruce Ray. I attended Bear Exploration Center through my elementary years. I then moved on to Floyd Middle Magnet School, where I learned to play the clarinet. I graduated from Brewbaker Technology Magnet HIgh School, where I was in the medical academy. During my time here, I was taught how to take blood pressure, draw blood, and many other things that doctors do in a day’s work. My senior year, I was afforded the opportunity to shadow many doctors, nurses, and medical professionals of different careers to see them firsthand in their career. I am currently a Freshman Biology major at Alabama State University. After graduation, I plan to enroll in the doctoral program at Alabama State to continue on my path to becoming a physical therapist. Miss Sophomore 2018-19 candidate Malisa Ray is inspiring the class of 2021 to follow her platform and “Dream B.I.G.” Big is an acronym for Bridge the Gap, Inspire the Youth, and Graduate. Ray says by bridging the gap she wants to bring different social groups, clubs, and organizations on campus together. “ I want to Inspire the Youth because after my class grows old, we will be depending on them. In order to inspire them, we have to do our job as college students. …...This means they need to see us doing big things on campus and in the community,” said Ray. She says she would like to implement different events and forums that will help the class of 2021 bond. Ray plans to Inspire the youth by encouraging her class to do things such as community service and being involved on campus. Ray is a member of SGA Street Team, Royalty, and a new community service organization entitled Radiant Souls. “ Every leader needs to be dedicated, dependable, and have a heart for what they are doing. I am very dedicated and that shows because I ran for Miss Freshman and wasn’t elected. That can be a tough pill to swallow and it can make one want to give up. However, I am here running for Miss Sophomore on the same platform because it is something that I really believe in,” she said. Ray says she is running for Miss Sophomore to be a representation of Alabama State’s class of 2021. she stated “The sky is the limit so anything we can dream of is obtainable.”
