Do Ya’ Thang Entertainment, a student ran promotional group, has started the semester with leading by example. With members Myles Green, Malek Green, Marquel Harris, Jefferey Mitchell, Droop Williams, Husin Clark, Cedric Scales, and Elliot Anderson this group of friends have decided to make a name for themselves, here at ASU. Clark noted that “Do Ya thang, yeah we party and have fun, but we’re about our business.” This promotion group has created a hit basketball tournament on campus. Students are allowed to enter their teams for a fee of $5 per player. Students are also allowed to come watch and support each night by donating a non perishable food item or hygiene product. But, what makes this effort so unique is that DYT is gifting the Second Chance foundation with all proceeds in effort to support students in need of extra funding for school. The Second Chance Foundation was an initiative brought upon by the SGA president, Jaylon Pickett. This foundation will hold funds for students to apply for if they have a remaining balance after financial aid has been used and/or exhausted. These funds are expected to be available to students by October. DYT happens to be the first student donation and hopes to lead by example and encourage other students to donate as well. “Feels good to be the first, hopefully by us donating that bring students to follow sue,” said by Jeffrey Mitchell. Mitchell is also the member who created the idea of the tournament and donating funds to the foundation. Last year DYT hosted the tournament and donated to the breast cancer center. The group mentioned that as long as they host the tournament the proceeds will always go to a bigger cause, and not just themselves. This year DYT expects to have special guest, Jamal “Baby Lebron” Rogers, who is a professional basketball player, in hopes to bring an even bigger crowd than before The tournament will begin October 18th at 7pm. in the Lockhart Gymnasium. DYT expects a large crowd just as before and looks forward to seeing ASU in full support. In lasting words the group members left with us their signature phrase “If you ain’t doing ya thang then what ya doing?”
