At the annual Fall Convocation President, Quinton Ross, stepped to the podium with the quote “You don’t know my story.” Ross assured students that he knows and understands each problem that have come across as students. “The problems didn’t happen overnight,” Ross said. Students of ASU were urged to think about their purpose and ask themselves “Why are you here?” Ross spent his speech addressing the media as well as his role that he will play throughout this school year. Recently Ross had been bashed across the media for not complying with media when asked about financial aid and other things regarding Alabama State. Ross stated “nothing that they print will fix the problems.” Through these 353 days of Ross gaining this position he has managed to raise 1.1 million dollars for this university. He also committed $50,000 to the SGA second chance foundation, $25,000 to the non instructional staff, and $25,000 to the instructional staff. After listing his commitments he also committed to donating $25,000 to improving the custodial staff. Ross told students that this semester is going to be a little less demanding when it comes to financial aid. Ross understands that financial aid has been behind in processing student funds. With the process being slowed down the university has not pressured students with paying their first 60% of tuition, no students have been purged, and they have even given out $500 book vouchers to students who made the initiative to get them when they were supplied. “I can show you forward movement!” Ross allowed students and those wondering know that things are in progress at ASU and those who are waiting on financial aid have time to get things together,as the financial aid office works to get funds together for students. In closing, Ross stated “I will not be defeated, we will continue to move this university 150 years forward.”
