“Illuminated Paths; Golden roots to bright futures.” That is the theme of Coronation for Miss Alabama State University, Arianna Thompson. Coronation will be held on Oct. 20, 7pm, in the Dunn Oliver Acadome. “Illuminated Paths; Golden Roots to bright futures” comes about from Thompson’s personal experiences and beliefs. “It came from me being here at ASU and being able to grow... I want others to be able to experience that growth to, don’t just stop.” This theme is also based upon her mindset of wanting to move forward in life, “I want others to understand the message,” she added. The message of her coronation will be to encourage the audience to reach for their goal, establish their purpose, and make your decisions not only based on yourself but, based on the generations to come. She urges her peers to not be complacent and to keep going, even when their successful. Thompson kept her ancestors at her forefront as she brainstormed ideas for her coronation. “ This will reflect the formation of our future, How our ancestors paved the way and illuminated the paths for the next generation.” There will be several performances throughout the duration of this event. Performers will include Beta Phi Alpha and ASU cheerleaders just to name a few. Thompson wanted to be sure that she included the cheerleaders were included in some way because of her previous participation, before becoming the 2018-17 Miss ASU. Various organizational campus queens will also be featured and recognized during this ceremony, as well. White and Gold are the colors that will go along with Thompson’s illuminated coronation. “I’m an art major so I have to give you the deeper meaning on why i chose these colors,” Thompson said. White meaning pure and holy and gold meaning rich, gifted, wise, and wealthy. As Coronation quickly approaches Thompson mentioned that she has not had her hands tied into the preparation of this coronation, “It will be a surprise to me, I know what’s going on but, I just gave them my vision and sat back and let them do their job.” Coronation is the formal crowning of the queen and an opportunity for the public to acknowledge and celebrate her. “I’m excited, but overall I just hope the people walk out with the message that I’m trying to get across.”
