It’s that time of the year, the giving season! Briana Ellis, an Atlanta,Ga native and the 2018-19 Miss Black and Gold, has put together the “Holiday Clothing Drive- Collecting clothes for a cause”, along with the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and the Miss Black and Gold court. “The Purpose of this event is to collect clothing for those in need during the holiday season.” Although, this is the season of giving we often times forget of those who are less than fortunate. So, Ellis has made it her mission to give host a promising give back. Ellis stated that giving back is something that she does on a regular basis, “instead of just giving my clothes I could also help out men and babies… usually people throw away clothing, so I thought why not.” The goal for this give back is to receive, at least, 5 boxes full of clothes for men, women, and toddlers. Thus far they have received two bags full, one with women’s and another with toddler clothing. Students are free to help spread the word and repost the fliers for the event. But Ellis strongly urges student to give to this cause, writhing the residence halls of C.J Dunn Towers, Carr Hall, Bibb Graves, and Facilities 1 and 2. Upon the conclusion of the clothing drive Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and the Miss Black and Gold Court will donate to the Hope house and Nspire,in Atlanta, Ga. Ellis notes that in the last she has recently donated to these two centers and feels comfortable with allowing donations to be gifted to these centers. “Donating your goods instead of throwing them away is environmentally responsible… I’m hoping to gain a sense of of acknowledgement, it’s an amazing feeling to help those in need.” Students are encouraged to donate clothes that they no longer need or want, to the different dormitories until Dec. 1. Always feel free to spread the word and encourage your friends to do so,as well.
