It’s been an entire year since Radiant Souls Community Service organization has been apart of Alabama State University. Radiant souls is a service organization that includes 42 “gifted ASU students,” Founder/President, Jhaianne Cooper, said. These students use their skills to give back to the community; skills ranging from hair, makeup, photography, fashion and so much more. “We all get along really well and it makes me happy that we all have interest in giving.” Cooper is a junior, Chicago,Ill native and has been around service her entire life. “My mom is a teacher and my dad is a firefighter, and I’ve always been around people who do hair and makeup.” For their one-year anniversary Radiant souls carried 25 balloons around campus. With each balloon was a motivation messages that encouraged students to “Keep going” and “Don’t give up.” Each person who received a balloon was encouraged to pass the note on to a stranger and continue the cycle of giving and encouragement. “It was exciting to see the notes come full circle on campus.” Prior to entering Alabama State University Cooper knew that she wanted to leave a piece of her behind. Her love for service came easy and helped her prepare for an organization that quickly took off. Cooper stated that some students, apart of the organization have once been homeless, which serves as their motive to give back; others just have a genuine passion for giving, like Cooper, herself. Since the start of Radiant souls these students have been apart of several service projects, “one of our biggest projects was the Prom service day,” Cooper said. The prom service day, hosted at the Hunter Station community center, was dedicated to to high school students in the area who were preparing for prom. “We did so much hair and makeup that day.” Radiant Souls also hosts master classes on campus that help students learn about hair care, techniques, and styles. Cooper revealed that several of the organizations members will be graduating soon and they will be looking to fill those vacant spots. “There will be a interest meeting… we’re also looking for nail technicians, if they’re are any.”
