Were you gifted with a new car for your high school graduation and afraid that you might have to leave it behind? Worry no longer, the Student Senate has advocated for the abolishment of the car ban for freshmen here at Alabama State University.
Senate-Pro-Tempore, Trentqual Rhone, spearheaded this resolution.
“This resolution was necessary because often, the needs of freshmen are overlooked when it comes to University and student government policies,” Rhone explained. “In my opinion, and the opinion of many students, the policy was outdated and quite unnecessary because the policy is violated all of the time without repercussions. Therefore, this resolution was to request that the official policy and language in the handbook and on the website be changed.”
The University Board of Trustees approved the freshmen car ban in 2008 in efforts to increase the university’s retention rate, improve the freshmen learning environment, and promote social growth.
According to Rhone, the Vice President of Student Affairs, Davida Haywood, Ph.D., confirmed that this resolution has already gone into effect.
